Andrea Barrett, Director

Background

Andrea Barrett, DirectorI graduated as an Occupational Therapist having learned some principals of facilitation and the nature of empowerment. Through a series of community development initiatives in Ireland and Australia, I developed an interest in the ecology of human development within the context of organizational systems. Initially I grounded my organizational development work within the context of consultative strategic business frameworks and had the good fortune to work with innovative large and small government, non-government cultural transformation and strategic business contexts across Australia. To resource my work as a largely independent sole operator I undertook training and education in Morenian theory and methodologies. This offered me a deeper insight into the nature of humans working with the complexity of living organizational systems.

Four years ago I relocated to San Antonio, Texas and began to consult with organizations statewide as an Executive Coach and as a Business Communications and Systems Specialist. Basically my work as an Executive Coach is with senior business leaders and owners who are increasing their leadership capacity to move their organizations forward rapidly. My work as an Organizational Specialist is to plan and facilitate processes with organizations so that business system relationships are developed to the point of exponential increase in organizational leadership.

Specific Interests

There are many aspects to my work that are fascinating to me, none perhaps more so than the massive change that individuals can make in their businesses and lives. Change, which can be so daunting and exciting can occur with the development of insight or a new way of looking at a very old habit. Change can start with tiny steps and fold out into very manageable leaps in career and professional efficacy.

Organizations as systems are fascinating to me, the history, development and unfolding story impacted upon by leaders. That individuals can change the direction of entire organizations is a complexity of system relationships, dynamism and individual capacity. Facilitating leadership development continues to be my primary motivation for working with teams and businesses.

Commitments

Organizational life as a complex human and business system remains the context of my interest in assisting individuals to negotiate their way through to increased spontaneity and success within their worklife.

Our capacity for creativity and spontaneity in the workplace is bounded only by our flexibility in the roles we play/undertake.

Current studies

I am currently undertaking two studies, the first is analyzing and cataloging of the process of facilitating business system/group relationship development within organizations towards increased productivity and human development potential. The second is a review of an executive coaching approach I have developed with a view to refinement and publication.
